20 lbs down and loving it! How are you doing!

I love hearing the congratulatory music because then you know that you've lost some weight!  I love starting over at 10 lb increments, because then trying to lose over 100 lbs doesn't seem so daunting!  Keep your spirits up even in the throws of adversity, and you'll succeed.

CrossFit workouts!

This is by far my new favorite workout!!!

CrossFit is an intense exercise program that uses functional varied movement at relative high intensities for time. This method of fitness features dynamic exercises like plometric jumps and uses non-traditional equipment such as kettle bells and medicine balls. The benefits of CrossFit training are due to the intensity of the exercises. High intensity exercises are effective for burning a high number of calories in a short period of…

Help me get motivated!

Hi! I want and need to lose weight but need some motivation!  Between 2005-2007 I lost 106 lbs.  Then I lost my dad and my husband got sick and I have since gained back at least half of what I lost.  I feel like a failure for that and have been trying to get back on track for some time now. I need a pep talk!  Thanks :) Rene

Barefoot Running

I am intrigued by the title and idea of the book. As a physcial therapist, this topic will definitely be of interest, as I have treated foot, knee, and hip injuries related to running.

Barefoot Running-In the Spotlight

Barefoot running has been around for many years, but recently has picked up as the new trend. Most people think barefoot running is dangerous and hurts, but you can actually run on the hardest surfaces without any discomfort or pain. In fact, a lot of barefoot runners say all you need is a few calluses to avoid roughing up the skin on your foot.

The main difference between running in cushioned running shoes and running barefoot is how your foot strikes the ground. Running on the… Continue

energy source the body uses to perform daily tasks, especially exercise. When your body starts to run low on carbohydrates, you tend to hit a wall.

There are many ways to gain back the loss of sugar in your body while working out. Most athletes use energy gels, sports drinks, or… Continue

Small steps result in big changes

Most of the time people are generally nervous to try something new. They want results right away and when they do not see them this causes them to give up. Studies have shown that if you start off with small steps it will only lead you to have larger results. Not only does exercise help you lose weight, but it also helps you gain more energy, reduce stress, and helps increase your serotonin levels.… Continue

When should you weigh yourself and what causes weight fluctuations?

A lot of people wonder when the best time to weigh yourself is. The answer to this question is to chose a time to always weigh yourself daily and stick with it. You should always weigh yourself at the same time everyday for the most accurate results. Most people like to weigh first thing in the morning after they have gone to the bathroom and before they eat or shower. This is what I generally do everyday because my body does not have any water or food stored in it yet.

If you… Continue

One great way to get ready for summer....

INTERVAL TRAINING!!!!

Interval training is a great way to lose extra calories and help build your endurance. Interval training involves alternating high intensity exercise with recovery periods. Since the weather is nice outside you can go for long distance walks mixed with sprints. Walk for one minute and then sprint for two minutes. This is a great way to shock your body and get your metabolism going. You can do this two times a week for 30-45 minutes. Another great way is to start… Continue

I just gained two pounds even though I am eating right and exercising. What’s up with that?

This is one of the most frustrating parts about weight loss. You’ll be sailing along, shedding pounds and then, one day you gain a pound, or even two. Don’t panic. There are some good reasons for this seeming catastrophe. If you’re a woman, you might be nearing your period. Or, it could very well be all the water you’ve been drinking. If you’ve been exercising, you may have built up some…
